Higher Education is Key to Building Back Better Post-COVID
New global commitments by governments and the international community to protect education spending and transform education to drive the post-COVID recovery and sustainable development are welcome. Engaging with and supporting the global higher education sector will be essential to their success. On 20-22 October UNESCO demonstrated their global leadership in education by convening an extraordinary session of the Global Education Meeting in light of the impact of the “unprecedented social, human and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic”.

IAU at the HLPF 2020
As the most global university association contributing to Sustainable Development and having the Consultative Status (the highest status granted by the United Nations to non-governmental organizations) with the Economic and Social Council, IAU took an active part in the High Level Political Forum again this year and co-organized a series of virtual events, together with partners and Members.

The COVID-19 pandemic is having an enormous impact on higher education. In many countries around the world, campuses are closed and teaching has moved online. Internationalization has slowed down considerably. Despite these challenges, HEIs have reacted positively, often implementing new solutions to continue providing teaching, research, and service to society.
