The XVI ESN survey is open to students who have been on an exchange during the last two years (but also before 2023), all international students who are pursuing degrees abroad (including at our University), and also students who have not been on an exchange.

HEIAS Expert Site Visit to Toyo University
From June 30 to July 2, 2025, The IAU concluded a three-day HEIAS (Higher Education Internationalization Assessment Service) site visit at Toyo University in Japan. The visit focused on evaluating the university’s progress in achieving comprehensive internationalization and enhancing global engagement across the entire institution.

CUNY launches India’s First Focused Research Initiative Honouring Achyuta Samanta
In a landmark development reflecting the strengthening academic ties between the United States and India, the City University of New York (CUNY) inaugurated ’The Achyuta Samanta India Initiative of the CUNY CREST Institute’ (ASIICCI), marking one of the few times a U.S. institution has named a dedicated research initiative after a contemporary Indian figure.
EUA Survey - Call for contributions
Higher education institutions in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and EU partner countries in the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood (former Tempus countries) are invited to contribute a survey on sustainability and greening. The online questionnaire is open until 02 June 2025.

Shaping the Future of Erasmus+: IAU Contributes to Strategic Dialogue on Academic Mobility and Cooperation in Europe
On 29 April 2025, the IAU joined a key policy dialogue on the future of European academic mobility and cooperation, held in Brussels under the title “The Future of Europe = The Future of Erasmus+.” Organized by the Academic Cooperation Association (ACA) in collaboration with five of its members—DAAD (Germany), HK-dir (Norway), DZS (Czech Republic), Movetia (Switzerland), and VLUHR International (Flanders)—the event brought together a wide range of higher education stakeholders to reflect on the evolution of the Erasmus+ programme.
University Mohammed VI Polytechnic – News updates from UM6P Morocco
In March 2025, UM6P hosted its annual Science Week, bringing together researchers, students, and entrepreneurs to showcase innovation in science and technology. Key topics included sustainability, green technologies, and scientific entrepreneurship. Student-led projects in water, agriculture, and environmental science were featured, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Queen’s University Global Engagement | Canada-Mexico initiative
Queen’s has partnered with the Embassy of Mexico in Canada to establish the Mexico-Canada Research and Learning Hub, aimed at fostering closer ties among Mexican and Canadian researchers, academics, and students. EAIE-IAU Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue
Internationalisation and global engagement in higher education are complex and constantly evolving phenomena, the approaches to which vary widely depending on institutional, national and regional contexts. What is similar across contexts, however, is the turbulent environment in which higher education institutions operate. Indeed, today’s unprecedented era of polycrisis presents significant challenges and opportunities for carrying forward effective and transformational internationalisation strategies. Wilco Hazeleger appointed new Rector of Utrecht University
Utrecht University (UU) has appointed Prof. Dr. Ir. Wilco Hazeleger, UU professor of Climate System Science, as the new Rector Magnificus, effective March 27, 2025. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Henk Kummeling whom we thank for the wonderful support he has provided the IAU in his capacity as Rector and IAU Board Member over the past years.

The 2025 Erasmus Generation Meeting (EGM) in Ancona was a moment of full-circle reflection and renewed commitment for the International Association of Universities (IAU). Representing the Association, Giorgio Marinoni, IAU Manager for Higher Education and Internationalization, addressed an audience of hundreds of young leaders at one of Erasmus Student Network’s (ESN) largest annual events.
