26 June 2026
The IAU is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) under the CAPES-Global.edu project, a major Brazilian government initiative for the internationalization of post-graduate higher education.
On Friday, 26 June 2026, IAU President Andrew Deeks and CAPES President Denise Carvalho signed the MoU virtually on behalf of their organizations. IAU Secretary General Hilligje van’t Land and IAU Manager for Internationalization Giorgio Marinoni were also present for the signing.
This strategic partnership paves the way for future agreements that will foster academic mobility for students and staff, joint research development, and the integration of Brazilian science into essential global networks. As a first step, the IAU will support CAPES and the consortia of Brazilian universities funded by CAPES-Global.edu in their internationalization processes, contributing to the Brazilian government’s efforts to strengthen post-graduate higher education across all regions of the country.
