IAU Horizons: Relevance and Value of Universities to Future Society
The In Focus section of this volume is dedicated to the theme of the IAU 16th General Conference: Relevance and Value of Universities to Future Society. Authors from all regions of the world, representing different institutions and organizations, have accepted to share what they believe is essential for the future of universities. The collection of articles brings together a variety of different perspectives, ideas and challenges. It presents priorities and solutions from multiple angles, yet what they all share is the unwavering belief that universities constitute an essential pillar in society.

The Internationalization of Higher Education in the Wake of COVID-19: A Rigorous Review of the Literature on Shor term Impacts
This report is published as part of the Future of Internationalization Partnerships Project, a collaboration between the IAU, the Center for International Higher Education (CIHE) at Boston College, and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. This report, produced at the end of the first year of the project, was published as a part of the CIHE Perspectives Series.

Improving Online Teaching: Practical Guide for Quality Online Education

The Second IAU Global Survey Report on the Impact of COVID-19
In February 2021, the International Association of Universities launched the second edition of the global survey on the impact of COVID-19 on higher education to monitor the situation one year into the pandemic. The survey gathered replies from 496 HEIs in 112 countries and worldwide.

IAU Horizons: Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future
The In Focus section features a rich selection of papers on the overarching WHEC2022 theme — ’Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future’. The Continuing Need for Internationalization of Higher Education
International cooperation and exchange are essential conditions for tackling the huge challenges faced by humankind today, as expressed in the UN Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. Internationalization of higher education and research is a key component in this respect by building international, global and intercultural competences, mutual understanding and respect among new generations of leaders, professionals and citizens worldwide.

Higher Education and SDG 14: Integrating Ocean Research for the Global Goals
The United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030) calls for increased efforts to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and gather ocean stakeholders worldwide behind a common framework that will that ensure ocean science can fully support countries in creating improved conditions for sustainable development of the Ocean.

IAU Horizons: Higher Education Leadership for a Sustainable Future
The In Focus section of this volume is dedicated to the theme Leadership for a Sustainable Future – Higher Education and Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals and features a series of reflections on Leadership for a Sustainable Future – Higher Education and Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals including 34 articles from all regions of the world.
Higher Education Engages with SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
The International Association of Universities (IAU) is an Implementing Partner for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the two organisations have a longstanding partnership through which they stress the important role higher education can play in promoting and enhancing the rule of law and sustainable development, in particular SDG 16.

IAU Global Cluster on HESD Activity Report 2020-2021
The IAU Global Cluster on HESD promotes the role and potential that HEIs globally have in order to achieve the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. ISAS Impact Evaluation Study
The objective of the ISAS impact evaluation study, conducted in partnership between IAU and the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, is to investigate the efficacy of the Internationalization Strategy Advisory Services (ISAS) and its successor program ISAS (2.0) on internationalization initiatives at higher education institutions.

Higher Education and SDG 5: Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls
Launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021 and part of a series of publications on university actions for the SDGs, this publication features contributions from 12 universities from different parts of the world. It also provides evidence to policy and decision-makers in order to stress the important role of higher education for effective implementation of the SDGs.

The International Association of Universities is immensely pleased to launch the book “The Promise of Higher Education: Essays in Honour of 70 Years of IAU” as part of our ongoing anniversary celebrations. We thank all the colleagues and friends for their insightful contributions. This impressive collection of 65 essays by 82 authors from all around the world represents a fine analysis of and reflection on the past, current and future of higher education and is a wonderful testament to the work of the IAU over the years and into the future. Available online through open access, this book will take you on a tour across the global higher education landscape while addressing pertinent themes and challenges in higher education.

This special edition marks 70 Years of Global Higher Education Collaboration with the IAU. It offers a glimpse of every decade since the founding of IAU, highlighting each of those remarkable moments that have paved the way to what the Association has become today. The In Focus section features a series of reflections on ‘Imagining higher education in a post-pandemic world’ with contributions from HE leaders from 16 countries.

IAU Global Survey on the Impact of COVID-19 on Higher Education around the World
The first IAU Global Survey on the Impact of COVID-19 on Higher Education around the world was conducted online from 25 March to 17 April 2020. It received 576 replies from 424 universities and other Higher Education Institutions based in 111 countries and territories.

IAU Horizons: How Funding Models are Influencing the Future of Higher Education
This issue offers detailed information about IAU’s most recent activities and suggests ways to get involved. It also presents the highlights of the 2019 International Conference that took place in Puebla, Mexico on 13-15 November, as well as the topic of the upcoming 16th General Conference in Dublin, Ireland on 26-29 October 2021, and the celebration of IAU’s 70th anniversary. The In Focus section features contributions from all world regions on the theme ‘ How funding models are influencing the future of higher education’.
