Sophia University -Symposium on AI and Higher Education

Join Sophia University’s upcoming symposium, "The Role of Higher Education and Deeper Learning," taking place on 9 July from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm (Tokyo time, UTC+9). This event will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend both in person and online.

As the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) evolve at a remarkable pace, the mission and significance of higher education are once again being called into question. What kinds of learning should universities cultivate in the AI era? This symposium explores the importance and challenges of the “deeper learning” that Sophia University aspires to promote, drawing on two key OECD initiatives: the international project “Fostering Students’ Creative and Critical Thinking Skills in Higher Education” (2019–2023) and the OECD Digital Education Outlook 2026: Exploring Effective Uses of Generative AI in Education (2026).
