University of Ilorin Awarded IAU RFI Fee Waiver
We are thrilled to announce that our Member the University of Ilorin has been awarded the IAU RFI Fee Waiver 2025/26 to participate in the Responsible Futures International Programme- becoming the first higher education institution in Nigeria to join the programme!
RF International is a whole-institution approach that places students at the core of embedding sustainability across the university. Developed by Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS UK) and brought to the international stage in partnership with the IAU in 2023 (read the pilot report), the initiative supports higher education institutions in mainstreaming Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a whole-institution approach.
Through RF International, the University of Ilorin will benefit from a structured framework to strengthen the integration of sustainability across curricula, enhance student leadership and engagement, and align teaching and learning with global sustainability standards. Furthermore, the coordination team consisting of staff and students will join the regular cohort catchups with peers from the international and UK cohort. The programme also supports institutional reflection, collaboration across faculties, and peer learning with universities worldwide, helping to translate sustainability commitments into measurable impact.
The University of Ilorin’s participation builds on its strong commitment to sustainable development aligned to a holistic approach, including interdisciplinary education and multidimensional research strategies. Guided by the SDGs the university aligns its initiatives with global sustainability priorities. This milestone further highlights the University’s growing role as a leader in advancing sustainability in higher education in Nigeria and beyond.
The Responsible Futures programme is open to HEIs to join all year round, with different participation fee categories.
Reach out to us if you are interested to learn how your institution could join the programme!
A new call for applications for IAU Members from low-income regions to apply for a fee waiver is planned for May 2026.
