Present and Future of the Internationalization of Higher Education: Insights from the Sixth IAU Global Survey
“Present and Future of Internationalization of Higher Education: Insights from the Sixth IAU Global Survey” was published in the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College’s Journal “International Higher Education” in March 2024. It was written by Giorgio Marinoni, IAU Manager for Internationalization, Hilligje van’t Land, IAU Secretary General, and Hans de Wit, IAU Senior Fellow.
Abstract: In 2023, five years after the fifth edition, the International Association of Universities (IAU) conducted the sixth edition of the global survey on the internationalization of higher education. Five years is a good time to allow for evolutions to take place and to be analyzed, and at the same time, a not too long time to have a completely different situation, thus allowing for meaningful comparisons over time. However, the last five years witnessed major changes in the world that influenced the evolution of internationalization of higher education. It is enough to think about the COVID-19 pandemic or the changed geopolitics with new tensions between countries emerging and new wars ravaging the world.
Papers by IAU: In it’s mission to contribute knowledge to the global higher education community, the IAU contributes to international debates on higher education by publishing papers on a variety of issues in journals, magazines and by contributing book chapters to key publications around the world.
