IAU at the Global Education Coalition's Fifth Annual Meeting
On 24 March 2025, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the International Association of Universities (IAU) joined the Global Education Coalition (GEC) to shape the future of education and reaffirm our commitment to SDG 4.
Representing the IAU, Secretary General Hilligje van't Land and intern Riu Rodriguez contributed valuable insights, emphasizing the vital role of higher education in fostering collaboration and driving innovation. With only five years remaining to meet global education targets, the meeting focused on concrete actions to address ongoing challenges and anticipate emerging needs. The IAU actively contributed to discussions on the Coalition's future, exploring solutions to education challenges exacerbated by demographic, technological, and geopolitical shifts, and engaging in workshops to share best practices and foster synergies for greater impact.
In an era of increasing complexity and uncertainty, characterized by geopolitical shifts, a weakened multilateral system, and declining development aid, partnership has become the new form of leadership. By collaborating, we can safeguard education as a fundamental right for every learner, everywhere.
As a leading voice in higher education, IAU continues to drive impact in leadership, internationalization, sustainable development, and digital transformation. We remain committed to advancing equitable, inclusive, and resilient education systems through global cooperation. Partnerships like the Global Education Coalition are vital in ensuring education remains a global priority.
