Presidents’ Forum
The IAU Presidents’ Forum is a unique feature of the IAU annual conferences, offering an exclusive space for university leaders to engage in high-level, peer-to-peer dialogue. Reserved for rectors, presidents, vice-chancellors, and other top executives of higher education institutions, the Forum provides a trusted, closed-door environment where participants can speak openly and reflect critically on the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
Format
Unlike plenary sessions or public panels, the Presidents’ Forum is intentionally designed to foster candid exchanges among institutional leaders. With no media presence and no formal presentations, the emphasis is on discussion, mutual support, and shared leadership experience. Topics of discussion range from institutional autonomy and financial sustainability to academic freedom, governance, and the evolving role of universities in society.
This dedicated space allows leaders to step back from day-to-day demands and engage with peers from around the world, gaining new perspectives and building meaningful connections across borders and systems. The Forum is also an opportunity to explore common concerns, consider innovative approaches, and collectively shape more resilient and responsive higher education institutions.
By convening the Presidents’ Forum, the IAU reaffirms its commitment to supporting the leadership of higher education institutions and creating spaces for global dialogue, collaboration, and solidarity at the highest level.
