University of Oslo launches Centre for Global Sustainability

The University of Oslo has officially launched its new Centre for Global Sustainability in June 2025, following the university board’s decision in September 2024. The Centre strengthens UiO’s already high-level sustainability research across disciplines, with a mission to advance critical interdisciplinary research, education, and communication for a more just and sustainable global future.
The Centre brings together key academic units, including:
The Centre for Development and the Environment
SUSTAINIT – the university’s Sustainable Health Unit
UiO’s three interdisciplinary platforms: UiO:Energy and Environment, UiO:Life Science, and UiO:Democracy
This new Centre reflects UiO’s long-standing commitment to addressing global challenges through collaboration across the natural sciences, medicine, social sciences, and the humanities. Learn more here.
