UNIMED Launches H-Gaza Project to Support Palestinian Researchers

The Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED) , has launched Research Horizons for Gaza (H-Gaza), a pilot project aimed at preserving and rebuilding Gaza's research and innovation capacity amid the ongoing conflict. The initiative receives €1 million in funding from the European Commission and runs until June 2027.

Over 18 months, the project will support Palestinian researchers in and from Gaza through three main actions: mapping existing support initiatives across the region, piloting a Virtual Research Collaboration Hub via the EURAXESS platform for 75 researchers, and conducting a feasibility study to guide a larger future intervention. The Hub will offer mentorship, access to research infrastructure, skills training, and matchmaking with academic opportunities.

The project officially kicked off on 1 January 2026, with researchers expected to join the Hub from September 2026. Universities, mentors, and researchers will be able to participate through an open call launching in May 2026.

H-Gaza is supported by the EURAXESS–Science4Refugees unit, a Gaza Liaison Group, and an Advisory Board of leading organisations working with at-risk scholars.

The Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED), is an IAU member and IAU support such initiatives.
