Responsible Futures International Fee Waiver 2026

Since 2025, the IAU offers one fee waiver to cover the participation of one IAU Member HEI for the Responsible Futures International programme, co-implemented by SOS-UK and the IAU. With the IAU RFI Fee Waiver (previously IAU RF Grant), we hope to increase access and diversity of participating institutions working towards the development of a truly global programme. The fee waiver will cover the participation cost for the full programme for one year, including ad hoc support online. The in-person audit is optional, in this case the institution is expected to cover the travel and subsistence costs. The fee waiver can be extended by IAU to a second year, if the programme cycle has not been completed and if the institution has shown solid commitment to the programme.

About the programme

Responsible Futures is a whole-institution approach to embed holistic sustainability in student learning at higher education institutions. It is a supported change programme and accreditation mark, with over 10 years of experience, delivered in partnership with students. Responsible Futures puts sustainability at the heart of education.

Fee Waiver Requirements

To be eligible, higher education institutions applying for this fee waiver must:

  • Be an IAU Member in good standing;

  • Be based in a low-income country (See list of eligible countries here);

  • Submit the online application form including a letter of support, outlining their motivation;

  • Commit to taking part in the programme: nominate a staff member and student representative to serve as focal points; attend one-hour online cohort catch ups every 6 weeks, work with the RF Framework, and set up a Responsible Futures working group at the institution.

If interested, please submit the application form by 6 June 2026.

The selected institution will be contacted by 15 July, and programme participation begins in September 2026 with online meetings. Kindly note that preference will be given to institutions which are not already involved in the programme.
