UNIMED - Open call for Mediterranean universities to endorse the Girona Manifesto

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and UNIMED have launched a call to action for universities across the Euro-Mediterranean region to address the climate emergency. Ahead of its official launch at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, the Euromed University Initiative for Climate Action invites higher education institutions to endorse a shared Manifesto and step up their leadership role. By joining, institutions commit to:

  • Strengthening regional cooperation on climate education

  • Embedding sustainability in curricula

  • Empowering students in climate governance

  • Promoting green innovation via living labs and sustainable campuses

Universities, academic networks, research centers, NGOs, and other relevant institutions are encouraged to participate. Endorsements must come from the institution’s leadership using the appropriate template (see below) and be sent to education@ufmsecretariat.org with the subject "Manifesto Endorsement".
