IAU Celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science at UNESCO
The 2025 International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS) brings renewed focus to closing the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. To mark the occasion, the International Association of Universities (IAU) was onsite at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris to take part in a series of events highlighting the importance of diversity, inclusion, and representation in science.
Sessions included:
Unpacking STEM Careers: The Power of Diversity and Inclusion in Shaping the Future
Her Voice in Science: Inspiring Change in the Media
A special screening of the documentary Women of Science: These women who change our lives
IAU Secretary General Hilligje van’t Land, IAU Board Member and UNESCO Chair Professor Jouhaina Gherib, and IAU Programme Officer for HESD Isabel Toman attended and contributed to these timely discussions.
This year, UNESCO reaffirms its Call to Action to accelerate efforts toward gender equality in science—a mission strongly supported by the IAU through its Higher Education and Research for Sustainable Development (HESD) Priority Area and the IAU HESD Cluster for the SDGs.
