Hellenic Open University Celebrates International Recognition for Educational Excellence and Research Impact
The Hellenic Open University (HOU) is delighted to announce two significant achievements that highlight its commitment to excellence in open, distance, and digital education, as well as its growing international research impact.
HOU announces with pride that it has received the prestigious E-xcellence Label from the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU). This recognition acknowledges the University’s significant progress, its commitment to quality assurance and to the continuous development of its digital and distance education provision.
HOU's international recognition has been further confirmed by the inclusion of three HOU professors in the Stanford List of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, an annual ranking that assesses researchers’ scientific impact worldwide based on indicators such as publications, citations, and the h-index. The academics recognized this year are Efthymios Zervas, Vice Rector for Infrastructure and Finance and Professor at the School of Applied Arts and Sustainable Design; Vasileios Verykios, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Professor at the School of Science and Technology; and Georgios Hatzigeorgiou, Professor at the School of Science and Technology. HOU warmly congratulates its distinguished professors on their valuable contributions to science.
Both of these achievements reflect HOU’s ongoing efforts to uphold high standards in teaching and learning, strengthen institutional quality assurance, and promote impactful research. As Greece’s only higher education institution dedicated exclusively to distance education, HOU remains committed to advancing excellence in open, distance, and digital education while contributing to the international academic and research community.
These milestones provide further encouragement for the University to continue building on its achievements and pursuing excellence in education, research, and innovation across Europe and beyond.
