EWORA 2026 Conference in Brussels

European Women Rectors Association (EWORA) has launched a call for participation to the EWORA 2026 Conference: “Women’s Leadership in Academia in Times of Rising Geopolitical Tensions”

The conference will take place on 10 June 2026 at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels.

Bringing together university leaders, policymakers, researchers, members of international academic networks, and European stakeholders, the conference aims to foster reflection and dialogue on the evolving role of academic leadership in a context marked by geopolitical uncertainty, pressures on democratic values and academic freedom, and the growing importance of international cooperation.

At a time when higher education institutions are increasingly called upon to safeguard democratic values, academic freedom, international dialogue, and social resilience, the event seeks to provide a space for meaningful exchanges on the future of leadership in academia.

The 2026 edition also marks an important milestone for EWORA. Active since 2008 and formally inaugurated in Brussels in 2016, the association celebrates the 10th anniversary of its establishment as an international association based in Brussels. Over the years, EWORA has provided a platform for university rectors, senior academic leaders, and European stakeholders to exchange perspectives on universities, leadership, equality, and the societal role of higher education.

Following the 2025 conference held in Lisbon, the Brussels edition aims to further strengthen connections between higher education institutions, European actors, and members of the diplomatic and academic communities.

Organisations, institutions, and networks interested in these discussions are invited to participate in the conference.
