Magna Charta Observatory

The Magna Charta Observatory aims to be the guardian for fundamental university values and to assist universities and higher education systems to operate effectively in accordance with them. Based in Bologna, the Observatory monitors the status of institutional autonomy and academic freedom worldwide and works to uphold the principles contained with the Magna Charta Universitatum.

An Affiliate Member of the IAU, Magna Charta Observatory and the IAU have cooperated together since the MCO’s inception in 1988. Former Secretary General of the IAU, Eva Egron-Polak, was a member of MCO Governing Council.
